Punjab government under Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif has relaunched the Green Tractor Scheme 2025 (Phase II) to support small and medium farmers. After the success of Phase I in late 2024, where 9,500 farmers received a subsidy of ₨1 million each, Phase II expands the program significantly.
This new phase will provide 20,000 tractors across Punjab at subsidized rates. Tractors are offered in two horsepower categories:
- 50–65 HP tractors – ₨500,000 subsidy per unit
- 75+ HP tractors – ₨1,000,000 subsidy per unit
The subsidy covers about 50 – 60% of the cost, making tractors much more affordable for farmers and encouraging agricultural modernization.
Benefits of Scheme:
Direct Cost Savings
- A 60 HP tractor priced at around ₨1.6 million will cost about ₨1.1 million after subsidy.
- A high-power 85 HP tractor priced at ₨3.2 million will cost about ₨2.2 million after subsidy.
Affordable Financing
Farmers can also finance their share via Bank of Punjab installment loans at concessionary rates, reducing the financial burden further.
Improved Productivity
- Faster land preparation, sowing, and harvesting
- Higher crop yields and more multi-cropping opportunities
- Reduced fuel and labor costs
- Potential income generation through tractor rental services
Modern and Eco Friendly Farming
The scheme promotes the use of fuel efficient tractor models, helping farmers cut costs while adopting sustainable practices.
